Asparagus with Basil

Asparagus is a vegetable that goes with many pasta dishes. It has long been a delicacy because it is not easy to grow and has a very limited harvest season in most climates. But in recent years it has become more accessible even in the off season. In this recipe, the asparagus is complemented by basil, which brings out the flavor of this wonderful vegetable.

Ingredients:
1 pound asparagus spears
3 cloves garlic (crushed)
1 teaspoon dried basil (or 2 teaspoons fresh)
2 tablespoons butter

Directions:
Rinse and cut asparagus into 1-inch pieces. Place in microwave and cover with a paper towel. Meanwhile heat butter in small cast iron frying pan on medium heat. When butter is melted add in basil and garlic. Cook about two minutes - while cooking the asparagus for about 3 minutes in the microwave. When garlic and basil are cooked pour contents of small frying pan over asparagus (not neglecting to remove the paper towel). Serve immediately.
