The Health Benefits of Coffee
Everybody talks about how green tea is good for you, but what about the health benefits of coffee? Is there any hope for those of us who love their morning java?
Luckily there is! In fact studies show that coffee can be just as good for you is green tea, but in different ways. Over 19,000 studies have been done in the past few decades on coffee's effect on your health. In the majority of studies it is found that coffee is a lot better for you than you might think. In fact, for most people drinking it has more benefits than detriments.
Take Parkinson's disease for example. According to several studies, one of the health benefits of coffee is that people who drink it on a regular basis are 80% less likely to develop Parkinson's disease. And this isn't the only benefit, other studies show that drinking it can cut your risk of gallstones in half, give you 25% less risk of developing colon cancer and 80% less risk of cirrhosis of the liver.
Interestingly enough, coffee drinkers can even offset some of their other unhealthy habits. One study showed that people who smoke but also drink a lot of coffee had less incidence of heart disease as well as liver damage than those who smoked and drank coffee. Coffee can also help you manage your asthma, boost your mood, stop your head from aching and even has compounds that help to prevent cavities.
One of the things that makes coffee healthy for you is that it is loaded with antioxidants and also has antibacterial as well as anti-adhesive properties. One of these antioxidants are called quinines and have been shown to increase insulin sensitivity in rats. This is interesting because a Harvard study showed that people who drank coffee had a reduced risk of diabetes. The caffeine in coffee helps you fight off fatigue, zap a headache, and improve concentration, as well as gives you a mood boost.
So what do these health benefits of coffee mean to you? While I wouldn't go out and guzzle down coffee all day long if you're not used to it, those of you who do drink a few cups during the day can now feel like you are doing something positive for a health instead of feeling guilty.
