Whether it is January or July people will be sitting down to ice cream somewhere in the world. In the U.S. alone 2006 production of ice cream amounted to 1.55 billion gallons. That comes out to over 5 gallons per person. According the IDFA, "the top five individual flavors in the United States are: vanilla (30%), chocolate (10%), butter pecan (4%), strawberry (3.7%) and chocolate chip mint (3.2%). That leaves a lot of room for the other flavors, but it is interesting that vanilla still holds such a commanding presence in the ice cream world.
